Allan GaigherConsulting Data Engineer & Architect
Hi, I'm Allan.

I build and fix data infrastructure, mostly in finance.

If you're dealing with pipelines that need to be reliable, audit-friendly, or just less painful to maintain — that's the kind of thing I work on.

A bit about me

I've spent most of my career in data, mainly in finance.

I've worked on enterprise platforms at Rothschild & Co, First Rate (Forex), McLaren Group, Alliela AI, and OpenData.London — so I'm used to environments where data has to be right, traceable, and compliant, not just fast.

What I like doing is the unglamorous stuff that actually matters: lineage, governance, migrations that don't blow up, and reporting that stands up to audit.

What I do

The kind of work I take on.

01Platform implementation (Microsoft Fabric)

Governance and best practices for Microsoft Fabric: how you ingest, model, and serve data so the platform stays maintainable and cost-effective. I help you set it up right instead of cleaning up later.

02AI agents & applied automation

LLMs and automation inside your perimeter: reconciliation, reporting, internal tools that don't send sensitive data to public APIs. Operational leverage without the risk.

03Power BI & end-to-end analytics

From raw data to a single source of truth: pipelines that feed well-designed, reliable dashboards. Power BI (or similar) with proper RLS, sensible latency, and KPIs that tie to the business — not vanity metrics.

04Regulatory & compliance pipelines

Lineage, access control, and governance (GDPR, MiFID II, SOC2) built into the pipeline so reporting is traceable from ingestion to dashboard. Boring but essential.

05Legacy modernisation & cloud migration

Moving off on-prem SQL or spreadsheets is risky. I've run migrations to AWS, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake with zero downtime and no data loss — it's doable if you plan it right.
